Posted January 05, 2018 17:02:00 The best software developers in Australia will have to wait until 2020 to find a job, as the Federal Government prepares to make software development apprenticeship programs available for those interested in a career in the industry.
Key points:The Federal Government will make software developers available for training by 2020The program will give apprenticeships to young people in the area, but not those who are already certifiedSoftware development apprentices are needed to create software for the Australian government, but there are no vacancies for them in the field.
The Federal government has announced it is investing $6.3 million to train up to 100 software developers and will allow the program to expand to other areas once it has been successful.
The program is expected to have a significant impact on the software development industry, with some of the most highly skilled software developers working in the country.
Key point:Software development jobs in Australia are highly paidSoftware development is one of the best jobs in the software industry, but it is not well paidMany of the jobs advertised to software developers are paid less than $10 an hour, and many of the apprenticeships offered are just short-term work for $100.
“This program is designed to help young people with a particular skill set develop skills in the digital sector, and will provide opportunities for young people who are less qualified than they would be to work in this sector,” Federal Education Minister Amy Adams said.
The Government has said it will also give apprentices a chance to work at a software company, but this will not be the case.
“It is not uncommon for apprentices to take a year to earn $60,000.
That is not going to happen in this program,” Ms Adams said in a statement.”
For those who would like to be in this industry, it will be much cheaper for them to do it than to wait for a year or two.”
The Federal Labor Government is expected at the next national conference on apprenticeships on Wednesday to announce its own software development program, to give apprentices the chance to get paid.
Labor’s software development minister, Matthew Canavan, said he expected to announce the program on Wednesday.
“As the Government works with the private sector to ensure that young Australians have the skills and knowledge they need to compete for a career as a software developer, we want to see that apprenticeship program to be the first step to ensure this opportunity for young Australians is there for them,” Mr Canavan said.
“We are working with a range of organisations to create the best apprenticeship possible and I’m hopeful that by announcing the program at the conference on Wednesday we can do that.”
The software development economy is growing, and that is why the Government is making software development an essential part of our apprenticeship and development programs.
“These programs will give those with the skills they need and the knowledge they want to be able to compete in the growing software development sector.”
